This is Louis Kahn’s 1973 sketch for the FDR memorial park on the southern tip of Roosevelt Island. It culminates in a “room” of white granite slabs set an inch apart to let in slivers of light. The design was shelved for more than 30 years, but is finally under construction and set to open in fall 2012. Can’t wait.
